The implementation of the 12.5-meter deep-water channel second-phase project of the Yangtze River below Nanjing has greatly enhanced the channel capacity of the Jiangsu section of the main line of the Yangtze River. In view that how the port along the Yangtze River in Jiangsu Province relies on the deepwater channel to promote its own development,we analyze the role of the deepwater channel in the enlargement of arriving ships,the reduction of shipping costs,the optimization of transport organization,and the transformation and upgrading of the industry along the river. Suggestions are put forward for the development of Jiangsu ports along the Yangtze River,such as the improvement of Hechang continent waterway,the integration and optimization of port resources,the construction of infrastructure,the layout of port-vicinity industries and the policy of port customs clearance.
