    Abstract:

A container yard in Africa has been used for decades. At present,it is stacked with 4 layers of containers, which are operated by reach stacker. The pavement structure has no surface layer and base course. The containers are directly stacked on the foundation. The base is 4 m artificial backfill with compact shell sand layer, and the bottom is undisturbed clay sand. The current yard reconstruction requires stacking 5 layers container, which are operated by reach stacker.According to the structural design of heavy duty pavements for ports and other industries, the thickness of the pavement structure is thick, because the shelly sand layer with high foundation strength cannot be fully utilized.Through the pavement structure overlay design theory, the existing dense shelly sand layer is used to reduce the thickness of the pavement structure design, and the finite element calculation is used to check the tensile stress of the optimized pavement structure base layer. The optimized pavement structure can meet the design requirements.
