    Abstract:

Focusing on the key points of the influence from the West Artificial Islands of Hanbantota Port phase II project in Sri Lanka on the beach evolution or siltation, and on the wave of the breakwater entrance area,we carry out a comprehensive research based on site beach survey and section measurement data, and combining with satellite remote sensing data, coastal sediment transport calculation and model test study. The results show that the impact of the West Artificial Island on the beach is only limited to the west side of the sediment barrier;it will enlarge the wave height on the entrance area of the breakwater by 5%~10%,without affecting the safety of ships navigating in and out of the port;and it can reduce the siltation of the entrance channel outside the breakwater entrance appropriately. The research results may serve as reference for designing and constructing harbor building such as artificial islands on large-scale sandy shores.
