Solutions for consolidation of soft ground under vacuum preloading combined with electro-osmosis

    Abstract:

    An axisymmetric analytical consolidation theory of soft ground under vacuum preloading combined with electro-osmosis is established by considering superposition of electric water seepage flow and pressure flow, the impact on vacuum loss induced by well resistance, the Hansbo’s sand drain foundation consolidation theory and vacuum combined with electro-osmosis boundary conditions. The analytical solutions for average excess pore pressure and radial average degree of consolidation are provided and varied. Finally, the effect of different load combinations on average excess pore pressure and radial average degree of consolidation is investigated by analysis of examples. The results show that the average excess pore pressure under vacuum preloading combined with electro-osmosis is the superposition of vacuum preloading and electro -osmosis respectively, the effect of soil reinforcement can be ensured through adjusting the voltage when the vacuum is insufficient, the better consolidation effect can be gained by higher supply voltage in the case of certain vacuum.
