From the derivation of Boussinesq equation, this paper summarizes the characteristics of Boussinesq equation, and the improvements of the dispersion and nonlinearity of the equation, the effect of complex topography, wave breaking and the interaction with current. This paper also summarizes the solution method and application of the equation systematically, so as to provide a reference for the development of this field.
