    Abstract:

The methods for calculating current force and wind force acting on ships are compared using Chinese code, Japanese code, British standard, Mooring Equipment Guidelines and Tug Use in Port. The current force and wind force are calculated under various typical dead weight tonnages for oil tankers, ore carriers and container ships. It is suggested that the tug configuration should be determined based on bollard pull required after calculating the pull due to wind, wave and current.
