The grain size and hydraulic characteristics of sediments at Xuwei area of Lianyungang port are studied and compared with those in the main harbor area of Lianyungang port, Tianjin port, and Huanghua port,etc., through which the difference of the grain size and sediments characteristics at different beaches are studied. It is concluded that the cohesiveness of sediments affects the hydraulic characteristics and the hydraulic characteristics determines the beach type. Suggestions on the classification of beach type areproposed, based on which, the beach type of Xuwei area is defined.
