Abstract:To resolve problems including narrow apron waters, insufficient storage yard capacity, low operational efficiency, and relatively high operating costs at inland river bulk cargo terminals, based on the quality upgrade & renovation project for Berth No.11 of old Yueyang Chenglingji Port, this study investigates a renovation scheme for the direct train-ship transfer mode of rail-water intermodal transport. This research is grounded in the quality upgrade & renovation project of Berth No.11 at the old Chenglingji Port.By adopting measures such as reconstructing the ramp wharf into a floating wharf, extending horizontal conveying distances by utilizing pontoon length, and connecting with existing rail-water intermodal facilities,it develops a renovation scheme of direct train-ship transfer mode for rail-water intermodal transport covering terminal layout optimization and handling process system upgrading.A sleeve-type three-way structure is innovatively implemented to enable dynamic real-time switching between distinct horizontal conveying paths.A quantitative comparative analysis is carried out to evaluate the benefits of the “direct train-ship transfer” process versus the “ship-yard-train” route. Results demonstrate that, based on an annual throughput of 3.2 million tons and a direct transfer proportion of 75%,the “direct train-ship transfer” mode cuts direct handling costs by approximately 1.00 CNY/t (a 33% reduction),raises overall handling efficiency by 28%-78%,and lowers annual carbon emissions by around 1,543 t compared with the “ship-yard-train” mode. The research findings can offer technical references and practical support for the construction and upgrading of rail-water intermodal systems at similar inland terminals.
